Sir Salimullah Medical
College is a renowned institution located in Dhaka, the capital city of
Bangladesh. It was established in 1972 and has since become one of the most
prestigious medical colleges in the country.
Sir Salimullah Medical
College, formerly known as Dhaka Medical School, was established in 1875 in the
old part of Dhaka city. The Mitford Hospital was a part of the school. The
medical school building was erected in 1889 with the help of sixteen local
kings and philanthropists. In 1962, the school was made into a medical college.
The college has various departments including preclinical, paraclinical,
clinical medicine, pediatrics, surgery, gynecology and obstetrics,
ophthalmology, otolaryngorhinology, anesthesiology, and diagnostic. The medical
college also has a 600-bed general hospital that provides OPD and IPD services
in the above disciplines and an integrated emergency department.
