Shahid Syed Nazrul Islam Medical College was founded in 2011 in honor of Syed Nazrul Islam, the first acting President of Bangladesh. The Bangladesh government approved the establishment of four medical colleges in Jessore, Satkhira, Kishoreganj, and Kushtia in the year 2010-2011. This initiative aimed to enhance healthcare services in the country. The project received endorsement from the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC). An estimated budget of Tk 5.45 billion was approved for the establishment of Shahid Syed Nazrul Islam Medical College. The project encompassed the construction of a six-storied hospital building, a five-storied academic building for the college, a nurses training center, student and internee doctors' hostels, dormitories for doctors and staff nurses, a mosque, an auditorium, residential buildings for the principal and directors, the installation of a gymnasium, procurement of equipment, one micro-bus, two ambulances, and furniture using the allocated funds.
